Management Team

Steve Brown is CEO, responsible for leading development and financing activities.  Since joining founder Gary Balke in 1984,  Steve has used his ability to see “diamond in the rough” projects to create extraordinary value while improving the quality of the built environment through excellent design.  He has guided the firm from its roots as a pure office developer to its current status as the leading multi-product commercial developer in the St. Louis area with expertise in office, industrial, medical, hotel, and multi-family projects.

A creative thinker with the passion to push difficult projects forward, he has successfully grown the company into a balanced full service real estate firm gaining the respect and support of many institutional partners and lenders.  While completing a 10 year ownership succession plan with Gary Balke, Steve built a strong and diverse new ownership group with the current principals of the firm each leading the separate divisions of Balke Brown. 

Steve earned a Bachelor of Architecture Degree in 1982 from the University of Notre Dame and Masters in Architecture and Urban Design in 1984 from Harvard University.
